When the microphone listens
Song ID uses the iPhone microphone only when you start a listening session. A session ends when a song is found, you cancel, an audio interruption occurs, or the 20-second limit is reached. You can change microphone permission in iOS Settings.
How song recognition works
The app passes microphone audio to Apple's ShazamKit framework, which compares an audio signature with the Shazam catalog. Apple states that audio is not shared with Apple and signatures cannot be turned back into audio. Recognition needs an internet connection. Song ID does not save raw audio recordings or audio signatures.
Recent matches on your device
Song ID stores up to 100 recent matches on the device, including the song title, artist, match date, and available artwork and music links. You can delete a match or clear history in the app. There is no Song ID server and no account sync. Device backups follow your Apple settings.
Artwork and music links
Artwork is fetched from the links returned with song results. Opening a music link uses that service, whose own privacy practices apply.
Accounts and analytics
Song ID has no account, advertising, tracking or developer analytics.
