Introducing Leaf Automation: Solar Drafting in AutoCAD
Leaf Automation launches with Branch — an AutoCAD plugin for solar stringing, homerun routing, and circuit length export.
We're introducing Leaf Automation — a company building drafting automation for AutoCAD, starting with solar.
The Problem
Solar engineers spend hours of every project on repetitive CAD drafting: drawing string lines between panels, routing homerun paths from strings to inverters, measuring cable lengths off the drawing, generating tags. The work is tedious, error-prone, and hasn't changed in decades. Meanwhile, labor shortages tighten and project deadlines don't move.
It isn't engineering. It's drafting. And drafting is what computers should be doing.
Our First Product: Branch
Branch is the AutoCAD plugin we built to fix this. It does four things, end to end:
- Stringing — places string lines on the drawing with voltage-window compliance baked in
- Homerun routing — K-means optimized paths from strings to combiners and inverters
- Circuit length export — measures actual polyline lengths and exports to CSV for downstream voltage drop and BOM work
- Tags — string IDs, combiner labels, and MPPT groupings on your standard layers
It also imports SolarEdge Designer PDFs directly into AutoCAD — a workflow we've heard described the same exasperated way by every SolarEdge designer we've talked to.
What Branch Does Not Do
Branch does not generate single-line diagrams. It does not size wire, calculate voltage drop, or produce structural calculations. It does not do energy modeling, panel layout, or proposal generation. Those are engineering decisions, and engineers should make them.
We do the drafting. You do the engineering.
What's Next
Solar is the first system. The same drafting-automation framework extends to electrical conduit (in development), plumbing and HVAC, and structural work over time. One discipline at a time — prove it, ship it, expand.
